Sevilla travels to Madrid

|

Looking to reinforce its lead at the top of the La LigaReal Madrid prepares to host Sevilla in the Spanish capital on Sunday night.

Starting with the hosts, despite settling for a 1-1 draw against local rivals Rayo Vallecano last week, Real Madrid are experiencing a wave of success.

Real Wants to Stay on Top

With the team performing at full strength and the atmosphere in Carlo Ancelotti's camp reaching new heights, Los Blancos are considered strong contenders to regain the national crown in 2024.

They secured a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League group stage earlier this month, scoring just one defeat in their last 29 appearances in all competitions since September 24.

With a solid six-point lead over his pursuers and his sights set on more historic achievements this season, the former AC Milan coach has received widespread praise for his squad of superstars.

England international Jude Bellingham is not expected to participate on Sunday due to a recent ankle sprain.

Joining him on the wing will be Eder Militao, David Alaba and former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

However, after serving a one-match suspension against Rayo Vallecano, French international defender Ferland Mendy is expected to make a full return.

Joselu, who has scored eight goals in La Liga this season, is expected to pair with Vinicius Junior in the attacking third once again.

Real Madrid's expected starting lineup is expected to feature Andriy Lunin in goal, backed by a defensive line consisting of Lucas Vazquez, Aurelien Tchouameni, Nacho Fernandez as captain and Ferland Mendy.

In midfield, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Toni Kroos are expected to provide a solid foundation for the team. In the attacking third, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Joselu are expected to form the forward line.

Sevilla Needs Victories

Focusing on the visitors, Sevilla, despite showing signs of improvement recently, face an imposing challenge. Sitting in a state of uncertainty in La Liga, coach Quique Sanchez Flores is looking for stability on the domestic front.

In their most recent encounter, they managed a 0-0 draw against Valencia, but the team, under the former Watford manager, has just two wins in their last eight top-flight appearances.

A disappointing elimination from the Copa del Rey last month, following a 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, adds to their challenges. Facing another formidable test, Sevilla are considered a significant underdog as they travel to the Spanish capital.

Their previous meeting with Real Madrid in October resulted in a 1-1 draw, but Sevilla have struggled to get a win in the last 10 consecutive meetings.

They continue to deal with injuries, and the visit to Madrid is expected to be without key players such as Lucas Ocampos, Tanguy Nianzou, Dodi Lukebakio, Nemanja Gudelj and former Tottenham star Erik Lamela.

In addition, former Real Madrid player Mariano Diaz is an uncertainty for Sunday night's match.

Leading the Sevilla attack will be Morocco international Youssef En Nesyri, who has scored two La Liga goals in three appearances since returning from the African Cup of Nations this month.

Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is preparing for an emotional return to the Bernabeu this weekend.

The starting lineup for Sevilla is expected to feature Orjan Nyland as goalkeeper, and a defense composed of Loic Bade, Sergio Ramos, Kike Salas and Jesús Navas as captain.

In midfield, Djibril Sow, Boubakary Soumare and Oliver Torres are expected to form a solid foundation for the team. Marcos Acuña and Isaac Romero are also expected to contribute on the flanks, offering width and attacking options.

Spearheading the offensive efforts will be Youssef En-Nesyri, who has demonstrated his goalscoring prowess in La Liga.
