Milan Beats PSG

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud's powerful header early in the second half secured a 2-1 home victory in Group F of the Champions League over Paris St Germain in a thrilling match on Tuesday, the first win in this season's competition for the Italian side.

Milan Gets Its Revenge

Former Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar put PSG ahead, but their lead lasted just three minutes before Rafael Leao scored an acrobatic equalizer and Giroud sealed a valuable victory just after the break in front of 75,649 spectators at the San Siro.

Milan now have five points from four games in third place, behind PSG in second place with six points.

Leaders Borussia Dortmund have seven points after winning 2-0 early on Tuesday at home to Newcastle United, who are in last place with four points.

The match at the San Siro was played at a frenetic pace in the first half with back-and-forth action and, although it inevitably slowed down in the second half, it was an absorbing clash in which Milan had to hold out until the end as PSG applied pressure.

PSG captain Marquinhos mentioned during an interview that the match was of a high level and that they were aware of the difficulty of playing there.

He also pointed out that the second goal changed the course of the game, as they were performing well at the time.

Likewise, the captain expressed that they were fully aware that it would be complicated to advance to the direct elimination phase if they did not win that day, but emphasized that they must not give up and that they still have control over their destiny.

Milan won a Champions League match in which they had been trailing for the first time since beating Real Madrid in 2009.

Minute by Minute of the Victory at San Siro

PSG took the lead after nine minutes following a well-worked corner. Marquinhos took a touch on the set piece and Skriniar was left unmarked to score his first goal for the Parisian club.

They have scored in their last 48 matches in the Champions League group stage, the longest streak in the competition's history, after drawing a blank against Real Madrid in 2015. But the home side equalized three minutes later with an excellent finish from Leao.

Giroud's initial shot was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, a former teammate, but when the ball went high in the air, Leao performed a bicycle kick.

Kylian Mbappé then found himself one-on-one with Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, but deflected his shot wide of the frame before Ousmane Dembélé hit the crossbar with a 25-yard cross-shot.

There was less action in the areas in the second half, but Milan took an early lead when Theo Hernandez's superb cross was met by Giroud's trademark powerful header.

Lee Kang-In hit the post for PSG on an unlucky night for the Parisians as their run of five consecutive wins came to an end.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli said the players showed a performance full of passion and energy, as expected. He emphasized that they managed to work as a team against a formidable opponent.

In addition, Pioli mentioned that the team worked together in an outstanding way and deserved the victory. Now, he emphasized the importance of performing optimally in the next match against Dortmund and overcoming them.

Milan now prepare to host Dortmund on November 28, when PSG welcome Newcastle.
