Gold Cup ready to continue

The U.S. national team already won the CONCACAF Nations League this summer and is looking to triumph again in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The teams have reached the semifinals, where they will face Panama on Wednesday night, while Mexico will play Jamaica in the other semifinal. It was an important game for the U.S. team, which lost a tough match against Canada in the quarterfinals before going to a penalty shootout. The match against Panama takes place at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.

Defending its title

Team USA (USMNT) has had its ups and downs so far, with good wins but two games against tough opponents that it has struggled with. The U.S. team has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup seven times, but had a terrible last game in front of Canadian fans in Cincinnati, which was 1-1 after regulation time after two goals and 2-2 after extra time as Canada took the lead before scoring an own goal in the 114th minute. The Stars and Stripes missed their first penalty kick but managed to score 3-2.

The USMNT also had a tougher than expected season in their opening match against Jamaica, which ended 1-1 but could have been a rout as the Caribbean nation missed a penalty kick while leading 1-0. The U.S. got it right in a soft double-header against Trinidad and Tobago in St. Kitts and Nevis won each 6-0 to top their group, but the style of play of Jamaica and Canada is more important during this tournament. and the U.S. may be the heavy favorite, even in the first 90 minutes.

Panama has done little wrong in the tournament so far, taking seven points from nine in three Group C games against Costa Rica, Martinique and El Salvador before advancing to the quarterfinals against Qatar with a 4-0 victory, thanks to Ismael Diaz and his second-half hat-trick.

Panama has not reached the final of this competition since 2013, but confidence in their locker room should be high after this impressive performance in the competition. The underdogs can be expected to put the U.S. to the test.

Mexico ready for battle

Mexico and Jamaica will also face each other today. Two of the three champions who have won the tournament in its history (El Tri and the United States) are still alive, while two teams (Panama and Jamaica) are looking to write their name for the first time as champions of the CONCACAF tournament.

The Mexican national team reached this stage after defeating their Costa Rican counterparts 2-0 in the quarterfinals. The first half is even; but the team led by Jaime Lozano took the lead in the second half: Orbelín Pineda (52′) opened the account on penalty, Erick Sánchez (87′) condemned the commitment.

Meanwhile, Jamaica advanced to the semifinals after defeating Guatemala 1-0 at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati. The only goal of the match was scored by Amari Bell, assisted by Demarai Gray. The team coached by Heimir Hallgrimsson aims to qualify for the Grand Final and fight for its first gold cup.

Let's remember that the last time Mexico and Jamaica faced each other in the 'Semifinal' of the Gold Cup, El Tri was eliminated. It was during the 2017 CONCACAF tournament. At that time, the Mexican national team was coached by Juan Carlos Osorio and was losing 0-1, after a goal by Kemar Lawrence in the last minute of the match.
