Club World Cup tournament begins to identify competing teams

In search of a new headliner, the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup has scheduled its championship from December 12-22 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Six teams have already qualified for this competition following Real Madrid's victory in the previous edition. Much remains to be determined, much of which will depend on the outcome of CONMEBOL's Copa Libertadores.

Japan finds a place in the Club

Al Hilal lost their chance to become Asian champions when they were defeated by Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds in the AFC Champions League. The Japanese team emerged victorious after winning the first leg 1-0 in Saitama, booking their ticket to the championship.

Oceania's representatives for the tournament gained one more team when Australia's Auckland City secured their qualification by winning the OFC Champions League final against Fiji's Suva, where they tasted a 4-2 victory.

Al Ittihad, the Saudi Professional League champion defeating Al Nasr, which had Cristiano Ronaldo on its team, will represent its country. On the other hand, Mexico's Leon, who won the Club World Cup earlier, emerged victorious against Los Angeles FC in the final of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Manchester City secured their UEFA Champions League victory in Istanbul against Inter with a narrow 1-0 win. This victory marks their first capture of the team and secures their presence in the tournament as European champions.

Meanwhile, the top African representative is Al-Ahly, which successfully secured its place through a 3-2 aggregate achievement against Wydad AC in its continent's Champions League. So far, six teams are already part of this competition.

More positions to be determined

The final group round of CONMEBOL's Copa Libertadores is approaching and it has yet to be determined which South American team will emerge victorious in this decisive moment. As the Copa Libertadores 2023 approaches the round of 16, numerous top-ranked clubs on the continent are fighting for a place.

The Group A leaders have secured their place in the competition, but now need to safeguard their top position by defeating Chilean side Ñublense without depending on any other result. Flamengo will host Aucas, who have already been eliminated from the race, and need a win to keep their hopes of winning alive.

Meanwhile, Ñublense has little chance of reaching the next round if it wins its away game and also beats Flamengo by a 5-goal margin, which seems unlikely considering that the Brazilian team is the reigning champion of the tournament.

Inter and Independiente Medellín will face each other in one of the opening Group B Libertadores duels. The winner of the game will take first place, paving the way for Nacional (URU) to enter the tournament. Nacional (URU) is currently in third place and is scheduled to play Metropolitanos at home. They must secure a win to advance.

Group C advanced to the final round after their victories in the previous matches, which were led by Palmeiras and Bolivar. The match between the two teams, to be held in São Paulo, would decide first place. The Bolivians have the opportunity to assume the top position due to their superior goal difference and their continued fast performance at Allianz Parque.
