Lions Barely Defeat Bears

|

The Detroit Lions were not the better team for most of Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears. However, the best team doesn't always win. The Bears learned that lesson the hard way at Ford Field.

On a tough afternoon for both Jared Goff and the Lions defense, Detroit came up with plays big enough to steal a 31-26 victory from a struggling Bears team.

Lions Pull Back in the Game

Down 26-14 with less than five minutes to play, the Lions came away with the victory thanks to two series of well-executed offensive touchdowns by Goff and a key defensive play on a loose ball caused by Aidan Hutchinson.

A dominant final four minutes catapulted Detroit to a 31-26 victory. It wasn't pretty for much of the day for Detroit.

The Lions struggled in aspects of the game they are normally very good at. Jared Goff threw three interceptions and the Bears should have had one more. The protection on the offensive line was also not up to par.

The run defense was also porous. There were missed tackles and poorly executed holding assignments. The secondary committed penalties and missed a couple of critical coverages that resulted in points for Chicago.

But in the end, the Lions made enough plays. Goff stood tall and delivered a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams to close the gap to 26-21.

Chicago's next weak series was easily thwarted, giving Goff more than two minutes and a chance to redeem himself.

Detroit marched methodically but quickly 75 yards in 11 plays and just over two minutes. Former Bears running back David Montgomery rushed in from a yard out to give the Lions their first lead since leading 14-13 at halftime.

Aidan Hutchinson ended any drama by knocking the ball out of Justin Fields' hand on Chicago's next play, with the ball going out the back of the end zone for a safety.

The improbable win lifts the Lions to an 8-2 record, while the Bears fall to 3-8.

Detroit Dominates at La Cima

Fans will enjoy a special treat this Thanksgiving. Detroit will head into Thursday's holiday game against the Packers with its best record in more than 60 years after rallying to beat the Bears on Sunday.

Detroit now has a record eight wins after beating Chicago, its best 10-game mark since the 1962 season.

Hutchinson, the second-year linebacker, recently told several media outlets that he feels this could very well be the Lions' year.

At the very least, Hutchinson feels the opportunity for Detroit to accomplish something the franchise has never done is wide open.

He believes they are a team that has not won a playoff game since the 1990s, and fans would love to see them in the playoffs and win a game.

Looking at the team and the type of players they have, Hutchinson believes this could be their opportunity.

Many players understand this, and understand that long playoff runs and potential appearances in the Super Bowl appearances are rare. If the opportunity is there, they are willing to take it.

Sunday's win exemplified the Lions' performance in 2023. Instead of finding ways to lose, they find ways to win, even when the odds are against them.

Goff pointed out that it is much easier to play poorly and win than to play poorly and lose, and despite not playing their best soccer for most of the game, they managed to make it work in the end. The team is described as resilient, tough, full of courage and not backing down from anything.
