After several days without hitting a home run, Shohei Ohtani once again ignited Dodgers fans with a 400-foot home run. His home run was one of the keys to a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies, a team that continues to find no stability in its pitching and once again struggled on the road. Los Angeles did not miss opportunities and took advantage of a sluggish start by the opposing starter to make an early difference.
With this result, the Dodgers maintain their steady pace at home, while the Rockies continue to struggle, especially from the mound, where errors and lack of control are costing them games. Although they finally broke their offensive losing streak, it was not enough to avoid their fourth straight defeat.
An Explosive Start For The Dodgers
From the first at-bat, the Dodgers made it clear they weren't going to wait long. Shohei Ohtani opened the game with a single against Antonio Senzatela, and just one pitch later, Mookie Betts hit a two-run homer that put the home team on top. The Venezuelan starter did not have his best night, and the Angels' bats took advantage of it.
After Betts' home run, Senzatela allowed one more single to Freddie Freeman, and although he managed to get out of that first inning with a double, the damage was already done. In the next chapter he showed a little more control, but in the third inning things got complicated again.
Ohtani, who had not homered in a week, reminded us why he is a threat in any park. His drive went to center field and traveled 408 feet, a clear sign of his strength and good placement.
Later that same episode, a double and a single kept the pressure on Senzatela, who only managed to contain the offense thanks to another double kill. In total, in four innings and one third, he allowed nine hits and four runs. He was replaced in the fifth inning after allowing a double to Betts and a run-scoring single by Will Smith.
Colorado Offensive Reacts, But Too Late
The Rockies came into this game on a troubling losing streak. Not only were they coming off three straight losses to the Padres without scoring a run, but they had gone more than 30 innings without stepping to the plate. That streak ended in the sixth inning when Nick Martini singled and Kyle Farmer drove in the team's first run with a double.
Although that moment brought some relief, the damage had already been done. In that same inning, the Dodgers extended the lead to 5-1 thanks to a sacrifice fly by Will Smith with the bases loaded, which put the visitors back on the scoreboard.
In the seventh inning, Colorado pulled closer with a two-run home run by Hunter Goodman. It was a solid hit to center field that came after a single by Mickey Moniak. The score tightened to 5-3, but there was no further offensive reaction. From there, the Dodgers bullpen took care of extinguishing any hopes of a comeback.
Dustin May Delivers on His Return
One of the best news for the Dodgers was the performance of their starter, Dustin May, who earned his first victory since May of last year. The right-hander worked six complete innings, allowed only three hits and one run, and most importantly, gave up no walks. His control was key in preventing the Rockies from finding offensive rhythm, and his straight line kept almost all batters at bay.
May looked comfortable from the start, taking advantage of the early lead to pitch with confidence. He was only hurt in the sixth inning, when Farmer hit him with the go-ahead double. After that, the Los Angeles reliever did his job. Tanner Scott took care of closing the game in the ninth with his fifth save of the season, without major complications.
With a mix of good defense, timely hitting and control from the mound, the Dodgers showed once again why they are one of the most solid teams in the league. On the other hand, the Rockies, despite some individual flashes, continue to accumulate losses, especially on the road.

One Step Forward, One Step Back For The Rockies
Although they managed to break their offensive drought, the outlook in Colorado is still complicated. They have lost six of their last seven games, and their record away from home is very poor. The pitching, both starting and relief, has been inconsistent, and although the team showed a little more life in this game, it was not enough to compete on equal terms with one of the best teams in the West.
Senzatela's performance leaves doubts. Although he faced a powerful offense, he failed to contain the damage and left with yet another loss for the season. The team needs its starters to be more efficient if they want to aspire to get out of the bottom of the table. The offense also needs to be more consistent, as they cannot rely on one or two plays per game.
Now the Rockies will have to look for a quick answer, as the schedule gives no respite. Next game they will face the Dodgers again, this time with Ryan Feltner as the starter. If they want to turn the tide, they will need to combine solid pitching and better decision making at the plate.
