The Texas Watchmen have won their first World Series in history after defeating the Arizona Rattlers 5-0 in Game 5 of the World Series. World Series on Wednesday, clinching a 4-1 series victory.
With the win, veteran Vigilantes shortstop Corey Seager has been named the 2023 World Series MVP after helping lead his team over Arizona in five games.
Watchmen Relapsed to Seager
Texas didn't even make the playoffs until 1996 and suffered a major disappointment in the 2011 postseason after coming within one out of beating the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.
Josh Sborz shut the door in the ninth inning, and with that, the Watchmen hoisted their first World Series trophy since entering Major League Baseball as the Washington Senators in 1961.
The Lookouts beat the Rattlers in Game 5 on Tuesday night, 5-0, where Arizona starter Zac Gallen had a no-hit game through six innings.
But who else but Seager to break it up in the top of the seventh inning, connecting on a ball that would lead to an RBI single by Mitch Garver to score the game's first run.
That's how Seager has been throughout the series: getting hits at the right times to lift his team.
That started in the bottom of the ninth with one out and a runner on base in Game 1 back in Texas.
The Watchmen were down 5-3, and Seager forcefully connected on a pitch from Rattlers' closer Paul Sewald into the right field bleachers to tie the game.
Adolis Garcia would win it with a home run of his own in the 11th inning, giving Texas its first victory en route to its first World Series title in franchise history.
But Seager has been in this position before, winning it all with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the shortened 2020 season.

Seager Led Texas Throughout the Postseason
Seager was named World Series MVP at the time, batting .400/.556/.700 in the six-game series with two home runs and five RBIs. In this series, Seager batted 6-for-21, with all of his hits being homers at one point, totaling three in the five games.
He also scored six runs and drove in six runs. Seager batted 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the Game 5 victory.
But the Watchers are on top of the baseball world now after a playoff run that included sweeps of the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles, a hard-fought seven-game American League Championship Series victory over the Houston Astros.
These challenges also include an emphatic World Series victory over the surprising Rattlers in five games. Fans call them a "team of destiny" after a fantastic postseason. Seager led this team of destiny.
Seager's World Series MVP trophy also places him alongside one of the synonymous postseason players in Major League history.
Reggie Jackson is the only position player in Major League Baseball history to win the award. Jackson won the trophy in 1973 with the Oakland Athletics and again in 1977 with the New York Yankees.
Seager is only the fourth player to win two World Series MVP trophies. Pitchers Sandy Koufax and Bob Gison also have multiple World Series MVP trophies.
For the entire postseason, from the Watchmen's win over the Tampa Bay Rays to now, Seager had a .318 average with a .451 slugging percentage and a 1.133 OPS, along with six home runs, 18 runs scored and 12 RBIs in 66 at-bats.
