Rattlers and Phillies Open Series

|

The Arizona Rattlers and Philadelphia Phillies open the National League National League Championship Series in Game 1 on Monday afternoon. The Rattlers will send Zac Gallen to the mound. The Phillies will respond with Zack Wheeler. The Phillies hold a 4-3 regular season lead over Arizona.

Los Cascabeles Look to Extend the Surprise

Gallen had a solid regular season, posting a 3.47 ERA and 1.12 WHIP to go along with a 17-9 record in 210 innings pitched.

The veteran pitched against the Phillies once this season and was solid, conceding two runs in 5.2 innings in a game the Rattlers lost.

Gallen has performed well throughout his career against the Phillies, with a 2.22 ERA and a 3-1 record in 24.1 innings.

The Rattlers are the surprise team of this year's postseason. They finished the regular season with an 84-78 record, but swept the Brewers and surprised everyone by issuing a dominant three-game sweep of the Dodgers in the NLDS.

The team has won every playoff game by at least two runs. They have connected a very respectable total of 13 home runs.

They have a .282 batting average with 15 RBIs and an .824 OPS with runners in scoring position in the playoffs.

Christian Walker has been key to the Rattlers' success. Walker has scored at least one RBI in all but one postseason game.

The 32-year-old first baseman has connected for a home run along with five RBIs and an impressive 1.023 OPS in five postseason games.

Walker produced four RBIs and a .788 OPS in seven career plate appearances against the Phillies. He is nine-for-17 with four RBIs and a 1.4 OPS against Wheeler.

Arizona averaged 4.60 runs per game in the regular season, ranking 14th. The pitching was just below league average, posting a 4.48 ERA, ranking 20th.

Phillies Seek Consistency Toward World Series

Zack Wheeler gets the opportunity Monday afternoon. Wheeler has been spectacular in his two playoff performances.

He limited the Miami Marlins to just one run in 6.2 innings in the wild card series and allowed three runs in 6.1 innings against the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS, in a game the Phillies lost.

The veteran was not as dominant as in past seasons, but posted outstanding numbers, with a 3.61 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, complemented by a 13-6 record in 192 innings pitched.

Wheeler conceded five runs with a 1-1 record in 12 innings against Arizona this season and has excelled with an outstanding 2.96 ERA and a 6-3 record in 70 career innings.

The Phillies have been just as dominant as the Rattlers in their playoff run. They easily swept the Marlins by limiting them to just two runs.

After that, the team had no trouble with the Braves' potent offense. They limited Atlanta to just eight runs in four games. Their only loss in the playoffs was away from home.

They have a batting average of just .218 with 17 RBIs and an OPS of .654 with runners in scoring position in the playoffs. Nick Castellanos shined at the plate in the NLDS.

The 31-year-old slugger connected for four home runs and four RBIs in the final two games of the series and now has five RBIs and an impressive 1.44 OPS in six playoff games.

Castellanos recorded four RBIs and a .669 OPS against the Rattlers this season. He has 13 RBIs and a .720 OPS in 28 career playoff games.

Castellanos has a 1-for-4 record with zero RBIs and a .650 OPS against Gallen.

The Phillies have one of the best offenses in the Major Leagues, averaging 4.91 runs, which ranks eighth. They have posted a team ERA of 4.03, ranking them 12th in the league.

Dominicans Seranthony Dominguez and Gregory Soto expect to see more action in the following games, starting this Monday afternoon.
