Marlins Triumph, Mariners Fall to Defeat

Bryan De La Cruz hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to break the tie in the game. With this, the Marlins of Dominican Sandy Alcantara achieved a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.

Nick Martini came off the bench to hit a game-tying three-run home run in the eighth inning. Christian Encarnacion-Strand drove in Elly De La Cruz in the ninth to give the Cincinnati Reds a 7-6 comeback win over the Seattle Mariners off Dominican Teoscar Hernandez.

Alcantara's Marlins Defeat the Dodgers

The Dodgers played their first game since the arrest of star pitcher Julio Urias. The arrest occurred Sunday night and, as a result, Urias did not travel with the Dodgers to Miami.

Meanwhile, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Josh Bell and Jake Burger also hit home runs to help Miami to its fifth consecutive victory.

Los Angeles reliever Ryan Yarbrough hit Burger with a pitch before De La Cruz hit a shot into the left field bleachers. With this hit, De La Cruz hit his 18th home run and gave the Marlins a 5-3 lead.

Chisholm followed with a solo homer. Andrew Nardi pitched a flawless eighth inning and Tanner Scott got the final three outs for his fifth save.

The Dodgers evened the score 3-3 on Chris Taylor's home run against reliever A.J. Puk to open the seventh inning.

Puk replaced Jesus Luzardo, who pitched six innings of 90 pitches of two-run ball. Luzardo scattered four hits and struck out six batters.

Bell hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to put Miami ahead 3-2. Jorge Soler reached base on a pass with one out before Bell hit a solo shot to center against Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw.

Kershaw allowed three runs, five hits, gave up five walks and struck out three in five innings. Consecutive singles by Freddie Freeman and Will Smith in the third inning gave Los Angeles a 2-0 lead.

Although Alcantara did not make the all-star lineup, the Dominican is expected to take the field in Miami's next game.

Hernandez Mariners Fall In Comeback To Reds

Julio Rodriguez hit two homers for the Mariners. Seattle has now lost three straight for the first time since August 12. De La Cruz opened the ninth inning with an infield single, stole second base and scored on an Encarnacion-Strand single to right field.

The comeback victory was Los Rojos' 44th of the season. Alexis Diaz pitched the ninth inning to pick up the win, while Andres Munoz took the loss.

The Reds overcame Rodriguez's four RBIs and Dominican Teoscar Hernandez's two-run home run in the first inning to earn their fourth win in the last five games.

Hernandez's home run was his sixth in his last 10 games and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. It puts the Dominican within one run of matching Rodriguez's career-high 15-game hitting streak, which was halted on Sunday.

Rodriguez's opposite field hit, a three-run home run, came to right field off former Seattle prospect Connor Phillips. This was one of four hits for the Mariners in the fifth inning, which gave them a 5-1 lead.

However, it was the Reds who pulled off a dramatic comeback to emerge victorious on Tuesday night. Seattle came into the game tied for first place with the Astros. The Mariners now find themselves in second place in the AL West.

For their part, the Reds were in third place in the National League Central Division, behind Milwaukee and the Cubs. Cincinnati managed to maintain their position after the conclusion of the game.
