Nets Visit Toronto

The Brooklyn Nets head to Canada on Thursday night to take on the Toronto Raptors in an Eastern Conference clash in the NBA's Eastern Conference. NBA EASTERN CONFERENCE CLASH.

Currently ranked 11th, just out of the playoff picture, the Nets have a 21-33 record, while the Raptors, ranked 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 19-36 record, are still looking for a playoff spot.

Nets Continue Pursuit of Playoffs

As the Nets come out of the All-Star break, they look to boost their playoff position after facing two straight losses to the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Celtics.

With a 4-6 record in their last ten games, the Nets previously secured a 115-103 victory over the Raptors.

Importantly, the All-Star break brought with it a coaching change, with head coach Jacque Vaughn being replaced by former UConn head coach and current Nets assistant coach Kevin Ollie.

Vaughn, with a 71-68 record since taking over in 2020, was fired in a decision described by Nets general manager Sean Marks as difficult but necessary for the team's future.

Coming out of the break, the Nets feature some new additions to the roster, including the acquisition of Thaddeus Young and Dennis Schroder from the Raptors in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie.

However, Thaddeus Young was subsequently released. Currently, the Nets rank 21st in the NBA in points per game, 27th in field goal shooting and 14th in three-point shooting.

Their defensive statistics rank them 16th in scoring defense, 13th in field goal shooting defense and 25th in three-point shooting defense.

On a positive note, they rank seventh in total rebounds per game and sixth in fewest turnovers per game in the league.

Raptors Stay Alive

Entering the All-Star break on a three-game losing streak, the Raptors faced setbacks against the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers after an opening win in the home-and-home winning streak.

Undergoing significant roster changes, the Raptors said goodbye to Kira Lewis Jr. and Otto Porter Jr. and welcomed Ochai Agbaji and Kelly Olynyk from the Utah Jazz.

The acquisition of Dinwiddie from the Nets led to the separation of the veteran player. Additional restructuring involved separate deals with the New York Knicks and Pacers, resulting in the departure of All-Star forwards OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam, replaced by RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Bruce Brown and Jordan Nwora.

Amid these changes, the Raptors boast a 3-7 record in their last ten games, underscoring the need for their revamped lineup to secure wins. Facing the 11th-ranked Nets provides an opportune time for the Raptors to start a winning streak.

Offensively, the Raptors currently rank 20th in the NBA in points scored this season, ranking 14th in field goal shooting and a modest 24th in three-point shooting.

Notably, they rank 25th in the NBA in three-point shots made per game. Defensively, the Raptors rank 20th in points allowed this season, with a 23rd ranking in field goal shooting defense and 22nd in three-point shooting defense.

They also rank 18th in total rebounds per game and 17th in the category of fewest turnovers per game.
